While she fuels her soul by exploring new places, learning about history, and writing fiction, it took the influence of Demery’s powerful characters to inspire the publication of The Wyn Series. Born overseas, Demery lived and studied abroad yet spent most of her years occupying various regions within the United States. She asked herself, "Why not write about history’s most notorious adventure-seeking seafarers who journeyed open waters over a thousand years ago?"
